The Mikarie Child Care Centre is located at 2 Mikarie Place in Kirrawee and is accessed via Gate 2. Mikarie is an Aboriginal word for ‘depth’ which reflects our commitment in providing a deep and meaningful journey of high quality care and education for all children aged 0-6 years. Our surroundings embrace the community’s diversity, honour the history of the Gweagal People of the Dharawal Nation and our programs are designed to nurture the mind, body and spirit of all who attend.
The Mikarie Child Care Centre provides high quality care and education for all children including those that have disabilities. The early childhood programs provided at the centre, support children with disabilities to integrate into the mainstream setting, experiencing the same style of early education as their peers. Children without disabilities enjoy a high quality care and education program that also encourages them to understand that all children are equal regardless of ability.
The centre operates from 7am until 6pm Monday to Friday. The centre is closed on all public holidays and has an annual two week shutdown period over the Christmas New Year period.

Mikarie Child Care employees develop programs which encapsulate the essence of the Early Years Learning Framework. The programs provide a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences designed to stimulate an eagerness to learn while developing the children’s thinking, social, physical, emotional, communication
and creative potential.
Partnerships with families and observing children’s interests help to build the foundations for class programs which will allow for free play discoveries and create intentional teaching opportunities. This will enable each child’s learning in the five outcomes:
Children have a strong sense of identity
Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Children are confident and involved learners
Children are effective communicators
Employees will participate in the development and implementation of Individual Family Service Plans for children with additional needs to ensure that families are supported and the children are given every opportunity for success. It is important to continually liaise with other organizations and therapists with whom the families are engaged so that continuity is promoted and current resources and equipment are in use.
The Education & Early Learning Manager is responsible for keeping children’s and programming documents as per the Document and records management policy and procedures and uncontrolled documents developed in consultation with the Education & Early Learning Manager. Each child will be engaged in developing their own ‘My Journey’ book which will include short ‘about me’ and ‘my class’ stories, photos and work samples. These books will provide families with an insight into their child’s year and will also include information regarding their child’s progress, participation and achievements as well as general anecdotes about class/centre incursions. Also refer to the Sylvanvale Cultural and linguistic diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy and procedures.
