General Information
Minbalup Pre-school is a privately owned centre licensed by the Department of Community Services. The license controls the number and ages of the children attending as well as the number of hours that the centre is open each day. The centre offers Child Care Benefit as set up by the Family Assistance Office. The staff are responsible to the Children's Service Adviser for programming, administration and the running of the centre.
Operation
The centre is licensed for 27 children per day. The centre is open between 8.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday, 48 weeks of the year. A regular pre-school programme operates between 9.00am and 4.00pm for a base fee, with an extended hour available for an additional fee. The centre is closed on public holidays and for four weeks over Christmas.
Fees
Fees are payable on or before the day your child attends pre-school. Fees may be placed in an envelope with your child's name on it and placed in the fees box. Fees are payable for the day/s you child is booked into the centre, even if they do not attend on a particular day. Public holidays must be paid for, but no fees are payable over the four week Christmas break.
A non-refundable deposit booking fee of $25.00 is required upon enrolment; otherwise you child might no be guaranteed a spot.
Discipline
Children help set the rules and are reminded constantly to apply them. Staff will explain to children why certain behaviour is unacceptable. If any behaviour is inappropriate, the child will be warned several times and the redirected.
Rest - time
Children are encouraged to rest for a short period through the day. Books are provided for the children to look at whilst on their beds at rest time and soft music is play to help them relax.
A normal cost sheet with elastic across each corner is required every day, which MUST be labelled with the child's name on it.
Sickness
The centre will not provide care for children suffering from contagious illness or high temperature. These children should be kept at home.
If you child becomes ill whilst at preschool, you or your nominated contact person will be notified immediately. In case of an accident, illness or injury, the pre-school will endeavour to notify you before seeking medical advice. If medication is necessary the staff must be notified and the details must be recorded in the medication book.
Meals
Food must be provided by the parent and must include:
Fruit for morning tea or other healthy food item/sA sandwich or suitable nutritional lunch, healthy snacks and a drink
Please NO lollies, chips, chocolate etc is to be sent with your child. We serve milk or water with morning tea.
Clothing, Hats
Each article of clothing sent to pre-school must be clearly marked with your child's name. We also ask that a spare set of clothing be sent with your child each day. This is not only due to toileting accidents, but also due to spillages and play accidents.
Vaccinations
From January 1994, the Health Department requires parents to show proof of their child's vaccinations for the various childhood diseases. Vaccinations are not compulsory, however if there is an outbreak of one of these diseases, children who are not vaccinated must stay at home until the epidemic has passed. The centre is also required to keep a register of vaccinations for all children in its care.
Centre's Philosophy
The staff's aim is to provide the children with a loving, secure environment in which they can develop social, intellectual and physical skills as well as encouraging creativity and individuality, which will build confidence and self-worth.
