Welcome to Sutherland Presbyterian Church Preschool. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our Preschool.
Sutherland Presbyterian Church Preschool has been serving the community for over 35 years. As a Christian Centre we aim to provide a loving, caring environment in which your child can feel happy, secure and significant. We also aim to work with you in developing your child's social and physical skills, their emotional well being and their intellectual and creative capabilities.
THE PRESCHOOL IS
a community based Preschool operated on behalf of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church through a management committee made up of representatives elected by the Church, and two elected parent representatives.
a non profit organisation relying on a State Government subsidy, fees, and fundraising to cover wages and other expenses.
licensed and supervised by the State Department of Community Services (DoCS), known as a registered not an approved Child Care Centre in regards to Child Care Benefits.
The Preschool is administered by a management committee comprising of Church and parent representatives. A good way to become involved and find out how the Preschool operates is to become a parent representative.
The Preschool provides 5 full day, Monday to Friday, sessions between the hours of 9.00am and 3pm. If enrolments permit later in the year we may introduce a half day session for children under 3.
Preschool opens the doors at 9am and closes the doors at 3pm.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to enrol your child or just to visit to see why our preschool is so special.
The Preschool accepts the following principles:
each child's needs must be addressed taking into account that child's particular personality, physical abilities, cultural, social and religious background,
each child's social, cultural and religious background must be respected
each child's family will be the most significant influence on the social, physical and intellectual development of each child,
the needs of the child will be best met by working in cooperation and partnership with the family,
each child will best develop in an environment that is safe, caring and accepting of the child,
children learn best through play and interaction with other children,
the professional development of all staff is essential
WHAT ARE OUR AIMS?

have a greater appreciation of the community in which they live and the world which the child's community is a part, and
not be disadvantaged because of their abilities, or social, religious, ethnic or cultural background.
That each family
be informed about how their child is developing,
be able to communicate with the Preschool about the performance of the Preschool, be able to communicate any particular needs of their children that they feel need to be addressed by the Preschool, and

Development and Education
Our aim as educators is to encourage children to develop to their full potential, by providing educational experiences based on the individual needs of each child in out care.
The dignity and rights of each child are maintained at all times within a framework of support, positive guidance and values of the family.
Interactions with the children encourage the development of expression, self reliance, self esteem, responsible behaviour and are appropriate to the cultural values, age and physical and intellectual development of the children.
We work on all CELPS Areas (Cognitive, Emotional, Language, Physical and Social) of development with a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences.
Our staff regularly attend inservices and courses to keep up to date with the latest trends in children's education.
We are committed to all children in our care. We, at times, have children with additional needs who are catered for and integrated into our program and work along side typically developing children. We work with parents, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and professional assessors who are involved in the programming for these children.
Your child's name may be placed on the waiting list at anytime.
Starting in late Term 3 we accept re-enrolment applications for children currently attending the Preschool and who will be returning next year. When those enrolments are completed, the children on the waiting list are contacted.
The Department of Community Services requires preference be given to those children who will be starting school in the following year.
Thus children turning 5, then 4, then 3 will have priority, even though the Centre is licensed to enrol children from 2 years.
Please ensure sibling's names go on the waiting list as soon as possible so when the time comes for them to start they won't miss out.
